random events
So far the only random events are an occasional increase in the trade. I would like to see some stars go super nova once in a while, or some planets becoming unstable and exploding which naturally makes all the other planets in the solar system become toxic (which can of course be terraformed if you have the tech) . Anyway , just a little suggestion to ponder. As for how frequent I would say at least once every 350-400 turns.

Yeah, more random events will spice the game up. I found some while reviewing the language files so I suppose it is already on the todo list but the devs didn't come around to it yet.
Look at [HorizonHome] > lang > en > gamedata > random_events.xml
I liked the space monsters in MOO2 which were guarding attractive systems and I liked the supernova and plague events which could be countered with sufficient research point produced in the affected system

Yes ! A random attack from space spectors or pirates, an occasional plauge, or galactic menace would be totally awesome!
I looked at the file and it will prove very interesting when they get all this stuff in there.

I have to admit I miss those event as well.
They were good events, and I hope the devs here can add those in time as well.
More random events would make the game more interesting I think.
Unlike the events we have now that are on a timer, I would like to see some events that has to be countered by player actions rather than have then just end on a timer, like the monsters, supernova and plague events from MMO2, as mentioned by Xyquas.

Monsters would be great, but every great 4x game simply must have a giant supernova or a few planets that become unstable at least one for each game
