[Resolved] Game breaking bug

Post by S-P »

I don't know if this has been reported yet but. If you accidentally delete the default race when creating a new race it breaks the game, you have to re-install the game. It may be a good idea to make it impossible to delete the default races to prevent this from happening.

The delete button normally is disabled when the default race is selected.

Can you please describe the steps on how you can delete the default race or see the delete icon enabled so we can reproduce it?

I'm not quite sure how it happened. I think I had a least one custom race for humans and must have managed to delete the default as I only had the custom version available, any attempt to create a new one wouldn't let me name the race. After exiting the game any attempt to load the game crashed, I was forced to re-install the game.

Yes, if the default is deleted it would cause the game to crash. Either a steam file integrity check or a re-install would be required to restore the race file.

We will look into it, haven't been able to reproduce it yet. What Windows OS are you running?

I've just noticed that I don't have a default build for Human Alliance again, only the extra one I built later. Seems that the bug is deleting the default human faction for some unknown reason. It maybe caused when I started adding new builds for the other factions....

Does 'Verify integrity of game cache' restore the deleted file without forcing a re-install?

We've added a safety check (will be in the next patch 4.62+) to safeguard these default files from being deleted but we're still looking to reproduce the issue, so if you find anything else please let us know.

Yes I checked the integrity and was missing two files, I now have the Human default back again. I haven't been able to recreate the bug again so not to sure how it happened, I hope you can track it down. If I manage to get the glitch again I let you know.
