Start Positions - Room to expand

Is there an option or will the be to evenly space out start positions? I disable half the alien races to give myself space to expand before I bump into other races, but it seems that no matter what I try another race starts next to me competing for those choice system invariably getting there the turn before my colony ship arrives.

The system does account for spacing out the races so it should be spreading them out. Albeit it's not impossible for one or two races to end up relatively close to you just not very likely.

Are you playing with galaxy stars (qty) setting low or average? If you pick low everyone is very close to each other since the game is concentrated at the center. But with average it should be spread out and easier to expand, slower contact and so on.

From experience, on Average (the highest that works right now) I sometimes start with them right next to me, others, 2 stars away, other times far, its too random.
